We sleep on our mattress every night so we may not even notice how old it has become.
It can be hard to know if you need a new mattress, so I made a checklist of things to look for.
A mattress usually lasts about 6 years, so if your mattress is older than that it might be time to look for a new one. Think about it – if you sleep 8 hours a night for 6 years, that’s 17,520 total hours of use!
If you wake up feeling sore, your mattress may have become uneven due to normal use. Body indentations are a natural occurrence with mattresses, but eventually they become too severe for ideal comfort.
3. Saggy, Lumpy Mattress
If your mattress looks like it would greatly benefit from some 8-minute abs DVDs, it might be time for an upgrade. A saggy mattress won’t be supportive enough to keep you comfortable.
4. You Sleep Better Everywhere Else
If you find that you actually sleep better when you’re on the road, your mattress is probably not doing the job. Keep track of how you sleep on a variety of beds. Does your body prefer soft or firm beds? This can help in the buying process.
